I wouldn't consider either to be an upgrade from a boardman fs

the ghost has a few parts that are an upgrade from the the current bike but not one I'd want to spend the cash on. The commencial is a couple of years old but has a few better parts I'd still not want to part with my cash for it.

    consider

or check pauls cycles and rosebikes

I had a Commencal Meta 55 a few years back - it handled brilliantly but then broke due to a defect in the rear triangle. In fariness they did fix it; they said it was a bad batch. Might be worth doing a google search to see if there have been any other cases or if quality control is better. Assuming it is, then Commencal all the way for me - great fun.

As much as I like Commencal bikes in your situation I too would be heading over to the German direct sellers sites.

Canyon are very popular and are fantasic value, likewise Radon from bikediscount.de or Rose Bikes are cracking value with good reputations. The only disadvantage to this is the lack of trying before you buy.

Rose have some demo bikes in the UK and the Granite Chief is a great ride although I haven't tried this years 650b model.
