Hi All,
Currently planning my first bike build at 17 years of age, I will use the bike for riding to school each day, 5 miles on back country lanes and possibly some touring in the summer. I have decided on pretty much all the components but I can not decide between these two wheelsets for my Genesis Croix de Fer Build;
http://www.bike-discount.de/en/buy/deore-disc-zac-2000-black-28-wheelset-105649 Only £76.51 but no idea of the companies reputation, how they will arrive and if I need to claim on the warranty the company is based in Germany
http://www.merlincycles.com/shimano-deore-mavic-a119-touring-wheel-68397.html More expensive at £122.94, but merlin have a great reputation for building high quality wheels and is a UK based company
Both use the same hubs and there is only a marginal 50 grams difference in weight between the rims.My primary aim is to keep the cost as low as possible but still have a durable long lasting wheel set.
Does anyone have any experience with either company or wheels? Or any alternative recommendations? Any advice grately recieved!
Thanks in Advance,

I would assume that's a bit out of budget... :?left the forum March 20230 -
I'm afraid that is, I am trying to stick to a budget of £800-900 for the entire build.....
Ugo have you had any experience with wheels from Bike-Discount.de ?0 -

No... it looks like a very heavy set of boots though... do you have a friend with a truing stand? If you buy a set of rims + hubs + decent stainless spokes you are probably around 120 and you can build them yourself better than those built cheaply... where do you live John?left the forum March 20230 -
Assuming you're buying the frame from Genesis, ask them about the wheelset they put on the Equilibrium Disc.
Shimano XT Hubs with H plus sun rims.
You should get a deal on both...Condor Super Acciaio, Record, Deda, Pacentis.
Curtis 853 Handbuilt MTB, XTR, DT Swiss and lots of Hope.
Genesis Datum Gravel Bike, Pacentis (again).
Genesis Equilibrium Disc, 105 & H-Plus-Son.

I'd be very surprised if they didn't quote £250-£300 IF they even agree to supply them.My blog: http://www.roubaixcycling.cc (kit reviews and other musings)

http://www.merlincycles.com/shimano-deo ... 68397.html Might be appropriate. Also look at Spa cycles.'Happiness serves hardly any other purpose than to make unhappiness possible' Marcel Proust.0

Ryde Taurus 19 rims on XT hubs will be less than £200 that's what I would do.http://www.thecycleclinic.co.uk -wheel building and other stuff.0

Thanks all for the recommendations, Ugo I'm in North Wiltshire and unfortunately dont know anyone with a truing stand. I will ask around next time I go out with the cycling club though. Animal and Bender the robot those wheels do look very good although still a bit too much for me really, I am also already getting 10% off the frame and a free headset fitting so asking for a discount on wheels I think would be pushing my luck. Passout I was considering those wheels and are very tempted by them. The cycle clinic thanks for the recommendatin, I will have a look at them!0

John, if you can drag yourself to Richmond with all the ingredients (rims + hubs + spokes), I can build your wheels for free while you find yourself something to do.
There is a very nice pub a couple of blocks away...
I am concerned all these cheap handbuilts you buy online are a bit crapleft the forum March 20230 -
Thanks Ugo, I shall drop you an email shortly!0
