Hi all, just signed up and I am a still very new to cycling (well, since my childhood) so please excuse any lack of knowledge in what I'm about to ask. (also, sorry if this is the wrong section. I wasn't sure if hybrid bikes were better placed in the MTB or road bikes section).

Right then. I am thinking of taking advantage of my works cycle to work scheme and would like to get a nice Hybrid bike as I'm really not a fan of the lower riding position that a road bike offers.

I've set myself a limit of £500 and I've got my eyes of these two bikes.

So I was wondering if you guys could help me a little please. First off, they look almost identical to me. Is there a difference between them and if so which would you recommend?

Secondly do they actually look like decent spec for the price or would you suggest looking at something else? My commute isn't very far at all and will be entirely on tarmacked surfaces. So I won't need a mountain bike and as I said before I'm not keen on a full road bike.

Lastly, what would you recommend for accessories? I know very little about bikes so I have no idea if those tyres are any good etc. Would you recommend changing them at all?

Look like the same bike to me, with different names. Neither are particularly good value.

I'd get this and spend the difference on blow and hookers.

Same sort of weight, enough gears. Half the price virtually.

You might get better answers in the Commuting forum though, because they commute.

The carrera is a better choice. Suspension is pointless on tarmac, especially when its that bad.

Voodoo Marasa gets my vote for a commuter. Hydraulic brakes and 29er wheels, rigid fork and still well within budget.
