Front mech advice

Hi I have just converted my internal bottom bracket which was an FSA Alpha power drive to external bracket being shimano XT bracket and crank, I now have a problem my front much won't extend to the outer ring. Is there anything I can do with this mech or do I need to get a new one and if so would the XT reach? Thanks

Have you readjusted it?0

Yes I loosened off the screw to its max, I only added one spacer in bracket, But even if I took this out it would still be out.0

Make sure you have the correct chainline and it should work. - i.e the correct about of spacers spacing the correct gap.
I have the opposite trouble with too few spacers it will not come down to the granny properly. Remove the limit screws and check if they are able to limit anything.0 -

What size BB do you have, and what front mech?I don't do smileys.

Yes took slack off the cable, it was a 73mm power drive internal bracket on a boardman , went through the bracket in in 6 weeks as I'm 18st. Replaced with hollow tech 2 crank and BB, fitted fine. Now it won't reach as there is about 8mm width difference due to it being external.0

So in theory It will work? I Dont need to buy new much ?0

No, just fit it as per the instructions with the cranks if you're moving to the same ring or less set in the cranks.0

Either you've fitted the cranks wrong, or your not indexing the mech right, you certainly don't need to buy anything.
Did you back off the right screw? Did you reattach the cable, did you index it?Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
Chainline should have only changed by 2.5mm.0
