Day out in Hertfordshire

Looking for ideas for a day out around Hertfordshire please. Any ideas other than a Zoo as we may go for that as a last but good resort. Non cycling, it is for my birthday and as it is my first one as a Father would like to go out with my 9 month old and partner somewhere, ie a nice village/town or something. Any ideas!
