I'm looking to replace the standard mech on my hardtail with a XT Shadow+ clutch mech, but all the clutch mechs appear to be direct mount and my mech doesn't appear to be, my bike - http://uk.bikereserve.com/equipment/bik ... 92011.html

Do I need anything extra to fit it, or will everything come with the mech? PS, link to the mech I'm looking to buy - http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/sp/mtb-bm ... himgmrr125

They mount on the hanger, the same as your existing mech.

But if your current mech is 9 speed you'll need new shifter as well.

as CD said, it'll fit straight on unless you have a 9 speed set up - as well as a shifter you'd need a new cassette too.

    clutch mechs are awesome though

Thanks, it's already 10 speed so it should be a straight swap! :)

I normally ride a FS but thought I'd try the HT for a change, rattle, rattle, rattle...

Mate's after a new mech anyway, so he's getting my old one for £20 and fitting the new one for me, works well! Thanks for the replies. :)

They do mount to a hanger, but likely his existing hanger won't a direct mount, there is a difference between the two. This explains the difference pretty well - http://www.pinkbike.com/news/Shimano-Of ... leurs.html

As it says on ribbles website you'll need an adapter to use on a normal hanger:
For Frames with a standard gear hanger you will require the following adaptor, Shimano Rear Gear Bracket Axle Unit (RD-M781) sold seperately. http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/sp/mtb-bm ... 0000000000

    Hmmm...

A quick image search seems to show that most of the XT rear mechs come with an adaptor, but the image on Ribble shows it without - https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=xt+sh ... 6&tbm=isch

I've sent them an email to see if they stock the correct type too that doesn't need an adaptor, they do have another listing that has no picture!

Edit: I actually ordered from Merlin, doh, and their picture seems to show that adaptor fitted - http://www.merlincycles.com/shimano-xt- ... 58057.html

I've never seen one that doesn't come with that bit. Except the one they sell as direct mount.
    I blame Ribble.
