Worn Ultegra Cassette?

In the beginning I got a second hand Ribble last August. Afew weeks later I replaced the Shimano 105 12-25 block with an Ultegra 11-23 to match the chainset/derailleur.
Have just replaced the old chain , a 105 with a sram 1051 which was recommended.
To cut a long story short the chain seems to ride over the teeth of the block cogs. I'm happy that chain length, derailleur adjustments are fine. On inspection the chain is not overly snug on the block. Have just retrieved the old and worn chain from the dustbin and the bike is now ridable.
So, is it likely/possible for me to have worn an Ultegra block with a worn chain in 6-7 months with minimal winter riding? Or have I missed something more or less obvious? And finally......what do I do now? Off to the gym, well grumpy. Cheers Tim

you ran an old chain on a new cassette, so wore out the cassette faster.

time for a new cassette to go with the new chain or run the old chain and cassette but watch you don't wear out your chainrings and jockey wheels as well

Yep - worn chain leads to worn cassette fairly easily.

You don't have to replace it with Ultegra - I run a mix of 105 and Ultegra cassettes and really couldn't tell you the difference (beyond a few grammes that I can't feel).

While this is not the answer I wanted, it is the one I feared. Am surprised it wore so quickly. It has done less than 1000 miles I would guess. Cheers Tim.

Ultegra cassettes use aluminium for the cogs so will wear much more quickly than their steel 105 counterparts. As others have said using a new cassette with a potentially already worn chain will accelerate the wear. :(
