how often to lube chain with Muc-Off C3 Dry Ceramic Lube?
Hello,
Does anyone use Muc-Off C3 Dry Ceramic Lube? If so, how often are you supposed to apply it to your chain? How many miles roughly between each application? Also, are you supposed to clean or wipe down the chain before applying it each time? (I know you're supposed to clean the chain before first application.) Also, when you apply it do you only have to put it on the inside of each roller? No need to try and get it on any of the flat parts of the plates?
And while I'm on this, I read that the lube which comes on new chains from the manufacturer is really good lube – I'm talking about the very sticky stuff, which is on a new Shimano chain for example… So why isn't that kind of lube available? Or maybe it is?
Thanks.

THe number of miles depends on how wet and dirty your rides were.
Personally I love the Muc Off and having a silent chain so clean once a week - i.e. every 150 miles. That is probably excessive and I could probabaly do 500+ miles with no issues. However, this may mean changing the chain slighlty more regularly due to additional wear.0 -
I see, thanks.

Dry lube, completely dry rides. Roughly how many miles between relubing would you say?

to answer (or attempt to at least!) a couple of your earlier points,
yes - for lube to work best you need to apply it to a clean chain, so apply some degreaser and run it through an old rag until it is clean, then leave to dry out. then re apply the lube.
the lube that comes on new chains is, as i understand it, applied to a heated chain so the links are expanded and so the lube gets in to all the moving parts much better, this isnt something you'd easily be able to do at home.
as far as how many miles, it really is impossible to say, I just go by how the chain looks, if it is making noise, if i have time to do it properly or if I can be bothered!
you are probably good for between 200 to 400 miles depending on how often you ride, where you ride (dust will stick to the chain so will mean it needs doing more frequently) etcwww.conjunctivitis.com - a site for sore eyes0 -
That's great, thanks Chris.0
