hi guys.
My jekyll at stock is quite weighty. I love it but feel i would love it even more with a few pounds weight loss.
I have also been thinking about building up a bike probably a giant anthem or the similar. But with the adjustable travel on the jekyll i cant make up mind which idea would be better.

Planned upgrades for the jekyll.
150mm fox ctd ---> 150mm Pikes
slx shifters xt mech sram s1000 chainset sram 1030 cassette ---> xx1
cannondale c3 ---> reverb
cannondale c3 bar ---> renthal carbon fatbar or something from enve
shimano mt68 ---> either mavic crossmax enduro or hope pro2 evos on lightbike rims

that lot will take a little while but should shift a few pounds. aiming for 2-2.5kg if possible + a diet for me.

or do i keep it stock and build up an anthem probably with xt groupo 1x10 reba and hope on crests.

Im going full time in a few months so i should have the funds to complete either by xmas.

Not even had a proper bike for 6 months and already the upgrade urge is here.

    I voted for reducing weight of Jekyll, but chaning things like the seat post to a reverb is going to add weight isn't it? What forks do you have currently 32,34,or 36's? The spec sheet you added is going to be pretty damn expensive

    I know the reverb adds weight but since Ive had a go on one. Its the thing I want most.

    im lucky enough to be in the situation that i have very little out going. Just paying off my bike my phone and giving my mum rent, and i will be working full time in a few months so i should have the funds.

    Those changes will probably add weight if anything.
    Anthems are excellent bikes. I want another one and would go for the 29er.

    What sort of upgrades would you do to shed weight. While remaining strong. Moneys not too much of an issue. To a point. I'm not going to by enve rims or anything.

    It depends what you want from the bike mate, weight is subjective and in my option allot of people get hung up over it. Personally I would look at lighter wheelset, not even sure what typeset you are using. This is the most important place to lose weight, so lighter wheels and tubeless setup for me. I would then look at upgrading the finishing kit so perhaps lighter bars. But if you want pikes and a reverb you will probably add that weight back on. However it will be a much nicer bike to ride with the lighter wheels and better suspension.

    The bike's never going to be light weight and i know that but i would like it to lose a little weight while gaining performance.

    This is basically what i want while shaving weight elsewhere.

    Also ive already gone tubeless.

    n+1 could still be a consideration i forgot that i could get a bike on the c2w scheme.

    If you got an anthem, would you still use the jekyll on more hardcore days out or would you always be using the anthem?

    You just need a set of mud tyres and some waterproofs for trips to Wales.

    My thoughts from when I demoed the Jekyll is that its not really a trail bike. Its good fun on the downs but you need a good technical descent to make the most of it. It only really comes alive on big terrain. The travel and geometry adjust feature did help on the ups but the whole bike just felt a bit heavy and cumbersome. and I don't think the changes you propose will do much to counteract that feeling. I'd prefer to buy an Anthem or similar for everyday trail use and the Jekyll for bike parks and DH riding.

    the more i think about the amount of money im going to put into this the more im thinking about waiting till the 2015 jekyll (140mm 650b) comes out, then selling my jekyll. buying the new one or maybe getting a go on a giant trance and picking up a anthem on the cycle2work scheme.

    My brains telling me to get 650b before spending loads of money on upgrades.
    my heart's telling me to upgrade my jekyll.

    as for n+1 if i can get it on my cycle2work i will, and im pretty sure i can.
