Need to replace (on the cheap) a 9 speed truvativ 32t middle ring off a 5d crankset.
Can I get away with an 8 speed alivio?
I was going to look at deore but 32t seems unavailable?

I've used an 8 speed ring with a 9 speed chain and it was fine (although it was only on a 1x9 setup, so no shifting on the front).
If you want, though, I've got a 32T SLX 10 speed in very good condition you could have for £12 posted.0 -
Thanks, but I've tried an old 10 speed deore on it and it won't fit on the crank even though the BCD is the same0

Sometimes you need to file the tabs a bit when you're mixing and matching.0

Good call! Will try that, thanks0
