My daughter's likely to be in the market (unbeknown to her) for her first adult MTB shortly and I was wondering.... if we get a 15" frame whether she'd be better served by 26" or 650b rims. Any advice on recommended bikes (suitable also for her brother at a later date) up to around £400 gratefully received. :?

At your price range probably 26" would be better bang for you buck.

Look at the Rockriders from Decathlon, the Carreras from Halfords and maybe the Calibre 2.2 from Go outdoors for best value bikes at this price point.

The latter has received glowing reviews and may well be your best bet.

The problem with the Calibre Two.Two is that it's only available in 18" or 20" frame sizes, so no good for a little lady, unfortunately. I'm on the lookout for a beginner MTB for my 5'4" girlfriend, and was also frustrated by the lack of 16" option on the Calibre (it looks like an excellent choice, otherwise).
