The new £1 coin

The new £1 coin has been unveiled:

Looks designed to wear a hole in your pocket, and is similar to the old threepenny bit, which is about what it's worth these days.

"While the Queen's head will be on the obverse side of the coin, as it is on all legal tender in the UK, the Treasury has said there will be a public competition to decide the image on the other other side."

Any suggestions for an appropriate image..?

    The real thing looks a lot better than that crappy CGI one - they didn't even get the sides the same length on that! :lol:

    Current pound coin has always been an ugly thing so I won't miss it going!

    So the idea is to replace what we have with something so anicent that cant be copied. I give you the genius of progress!

    Ah the old thrupny bit. That's the coin that I used to take to the much hated Sunday school as a nipper. I was messing about one sunday (well, most sundays actually as a 4yr old would) and balancing the coin on the end of my tongue with my head titled backwards.

    Someone nudged me and I swallowed the bloody thing. It didn't do the decent thing and pass through, but lodged in my stomach and began to poison me and I spent a week in hospital wondering why they'd left me there. :cry:

    I'll have a piece of that action. The Windsors seem to be built like the heavier Campagnolo wheelsets - didn't her Mum keep going till 101? Of course, having state of the art medical care can't hurt.

    The progress is sandwiched inside the coin so the coins are recognised electronically rather than by their size and weight.
