Bike stands

Does anyone have a view on whether the bike maintenance stands you can buy from Amazon for £30-ish are any good? I'd like something to ease the washing/lubing chore - i.e. so can turn pedals etc. Also for tuning gears. However, not keen on spending ca £80-120+ if a £30-40 stand will do the job. On the other hand, if quality is v poor, would rather wait. Reviews on Amazon seem generally positive

Anywhere else I could try?

what you get with a proper bike stand over the cheapo amazon ones is better and easier adjustability, more stable design and a quite a bit better build quality. These improvements are most likely worth it if it is going to be something you use a lot. trying to use the cheap ones for serious mechanic work will quickly lead to frustration.
  • I have one of these screwed to my garden wall for washing and lubing. £24.
Quality is excellent. It lives outdoors and works perfectly.

Only £34 and very robust and well built.

You really do not need to pay more.

I got this (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/201037374473? ... 1423.l2649) from ebay. Its very impressively solid - doesn't fold as such but the upright will come out of the base and its easy to store away. Its made a massive difference to ease and speed of cleaning and maintenance.

My advice is: get a stand, they really make a HUGE difference, even when cleaning the bike

I got my from the Edinburgh Cycle Co-op, cost about £50 in a sale and is one of the best investments in bike kit I ever made.

No need to spend a fortune unless you're planning on starting your own pro team - but be careful with high end frames in whatever material, eg I don't clamp my carbon frame, I clamp my (alloy) seat post

It's just a hill. Get over it.
