Lateral chain movement
Straight forward question, I think.
Is it "normal" to to see lateral chain movement as it runs between the cassette and chainrings?
If I view the chain from above, "measuring" against the FD cage then there's some lateral movement of the chain ~1mm.
The bike runs fine and the front shift is good with no chain rubbing in big-small/small-big. I have had a look at the chainring against the FD cage and any run-out is easily within manufacturing tolerance, we're talking ~0.5mm. DS and NDS show no movement - in fact, I just had it all nipped up by the LBS about a month ago.
What are everyone's thoughts?
Cheers
Ben

If there is no chain rub and no ghost changing or difficulty changing gear, does it matter?0

I suppose not? It's just something I haven't noticed before so I thought I'd ask here.Ben

1mm is not a lot really. its probably just an imperfection in the ring gear and crank. I have noticed it a bit before where a chain catches the front mech at a certain part of its rotation. so long as your gears are set up properly so you dont get chain rub I really wouldn't worry.0
