This could simply be answered in one question;

Is there any major difference between 29" and 26" tyre construction and performance?

Reason i ask is ive had 26" for years so know what i like and what i would use for certain situations, and was wondering am i being a bit naive thinking it will be the same at the bigger size.

Just in case it isnt an easy answer, I need a good allrounder, XC riding, including some roads to get too between; single track (sometimes rooty), bridalways, with some good mud slogs now and again.

Faves at 26" were Mountain Kings and Highrollers, have these tyres translated well up to 29" or is there anything else I should consider.

*oops budget wise dont mind forking out for top end unless there is a cheaper option that operates just as well*

Cheers

    No.

    My experience thus far suggests you can get away with less tread on a 29er - found my 29er Rocket Rons definitely have more grip than the 26" ones did. Slightly more versatile.

    looking yesterday cant seem to get x kings for love nor money

    well i can get some 2.2 which would be fine for the back but wanted the 2.4 for the front as continental are a bit on the skinny side.
