Garmin Edge 305 turning off
I am really frustrated with my Garmin Edge 305 and Garmin themselves. It keeps turning itself off when going over even the mildest bump and despite doing a master reset and software update that Garmin suggested, the problem persists. Peruding the internet quickly reveals that Garmin had a problem with the connections in their early devices, but refuse to accept that it was a design flaw, which is pretty shoddy in my opinion.
After having paid £230 for the unit originally, I am left with the following options.
Get Garmin to repair it for £60, where I would get a "reconditioned or newly overhauled unit", but with only a 90 day guarantee. Anyone have experience of these units ?? I am worried that the problem will occur again, when out of its 90 day warranty, leaving me with a unfit for purpose product, and £60 out of pocket.
I am only really interested in the basic GPS perforrmance recording functions and the HR, but see that the best Garmin for this now, the 500, is still up around £200. It is very annoying that Garmin do not admit that there is a serious error with their first units, which leaves me very cautious about giving them another £200. Is there a comparable product on the market that does what I'm after ??
Any advice will be gratefully received.
Cheers

I don't why you think the Edge 500 is around £200. The rrp is currently £169.99 and it can be found for less than that. You can get one for £131 from Amazon at the moment.0

My Edge 205 unit does the same thing, and I was told the same by Garmin. Since I'd just taken up running I bought a Forerunner for £90 and it will do for now.
The newer Edge 510 dipped <£200 around Xmas, but is back up around £220 now. At some point I might invest in the 510, and I don't have a big problem replacing a well used bit of tech after about 7 years of heavy use.
