Okay so I have looked around a few places and I've continued to be drawn to the Calibre Two.Two Hardtail.

Calibre Two.Two Hardtail here:

I also considered the Ghost SE 1800 Hardtail but I've thought little upon this but it'd be nice to get an opinion anyway.

Ghost SE 1800 here:

I'm lacking hugely in experience and would be grateful if I were able to get someone's opinion on this. If anyone had another suggestion for a beginner that's around this price then I'd be open to suggestion, the terrain I intend to use this bike on would probably be something like this if you'd care to look:

I also wonder whether I'd want a full suss or hardtail, as a beginner not seeking to do anything insane, I'd say hardtail is most suitable, right?

Thanks in advance to anyone who's able to help me :D

I can't comment on either of the bikes, but don't even consider buying a full sus bike for £300.
    XC: Giant Anthem X
    Fun: Yeti SB66
Road: Litespeed C1, Cannondale Supersix Evo, Cervelo R5
    Trainer: Bianchi via Nirone
Hack: GT hardtail with Schwalbe City Jets
  • Nah, if it were enthused to me that full suss bikes are more worthy of my money then I'd probably save a lot more to get something decent, I feel like I'm rushing this a lot mind

Stay away from the Ghost, poor forks and V-Brakes, the Calibre is spot on for that money, decent fork, Deore kit and hydraulic brakes.

Forget FS if you can at this price point, they are very poor in comparrison to HT. It may be worth looking through the classified section on this site or ebay for 2nd hand, you may get alot more bike for your money, a nice Rockrider or Boardman will serve you well and have plenty of decent kit on.

  • I wasn't sure about second hand because I'm not really sure what to expect, never mind which bike is decent anyway. I had a little browse through some second hand bikes and didn't really see much that caught my eye but I'll check for a Rockrider, that was my first choice. Thanks for the advice! I'll try to keep the search going and if I still return to the Calibre I'll assume it's worthy of my money :D
