Boardman Team Carbon Front Derailieur cable routing

Hi,
I'm in the process of re-cabling my Boardman Team Carbon and I can't get the cable to pass through the hole near the bottom bracket. It was quite difficult to pull out in the first place but now it is absolutely impossible to pass the cable through from the bottom, or the top. I spoke to a Halfords bike mechanic and he said they also have trouble but I just need to be persistent, but I can't even shine a light through the hole. Do I need to remove the BB to route the cable?
