I was looking at having a go at this just so I can say I've done it. It would have to be a day trip there and back probably biking down and getting train back. I'd like to do a pleasant scenic route and it seems to me that the most direct way is the old road alongside the motorway to Gretna. The question is how pleasant/unpleasant is that (noise, fumes etc) and is there a decent alternative? I want to stay off A roads if possible and am wondering if a route down Peebles way is an option.

  • Head down through Lanark, hit the Biggar area and there are roads crisscrossing all the way down to England

The Ettrick Valley route is beautiful. Worth the effort simply to visit the Buddhist Monastery
Trek,,,, too cool for school ,, apparently
  • Thanks for the suggestion, I will check that route out.
