My girlfriend has decided that she would like to purchase a bike after going out on my old hybrid a couple of times. She has complained that my hybrid is too big for her (and a bit crap and old). I think she is ideally wanting a hybrid bike to use on roads and gravelly forest paths (with me but I will be using my mountain bike). She doesn't really want to spend much more that 400 - any ideas on a decent hybrid that would do?

Giant do a range. Wife has one and I'm impressed for the cash. Look around for sale / last year's models in the right size.

I got mine a Cannondale Quick 6 for around that price and it does the job.
