Bottom bracket change GT avalanche

Guys, a friend is changing the bb of his avalanche. It currently has some form of square tapered bb and he wants to change it to a hollow tech 2. Will this be a simple replacement or is there anything he needs to consider. He is changing the group set for a shimano lx

    You mean SLX?

    One the chainset - he'll need to face the BB shell.

    The rest should fit fine if he has all the mounts.

    Can you expand on this any? What do you mean face the bb? Sorry I'm a roadie

    Machine the BB shell so that the faces are perfectly parallel as they position the BB and if skew the bearings will wear quickly.
    Cartridge BB's like square taper are all one unit so for those it doesn't matter. Costs maybe a tenner at the LBS.
