I have just started to strip bike down for a clean for spring, and when removing the cable guide under the bottom bracket, the bolt came loose, and when looking in the frame the threaded cup has sheared completely.

The bolt will turn freely now without tightening.

I can then remove the threaded cup which is knackered.

So I cant get the cable guide fixed back on the bike.
I have a few ideas to fix, but anyone had to deal with this before and had a good solution?

I'd probably just use a stainless nut + screw.

Yes, just check that by using a nut and bolt that the nut will not foul the axle (it could on some axles, but it's unlikely seeing that you have a regular threaded bottom bracket shell).

+1 for stainless nut and bolt

(alternatively, drill and tap the hole so the new thread will accept a larger bolt - local bike shop should be able to do this if you like)

Epoxy/JB Weld a stainless steel nut inside the BB shell
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

You could just glue the Cable guide on; the cables will help keep it there. You might want to bung up the hole with some silicone sealant.

    thanks to all.

Putting bolt in had crossed my mind, but fixing it in place inside the BB shell would be difficult.
There is a fair gap down that little hole..

Gluing it in place also was an option, but was worried about reaction against frame material.

Have shown frame/pieces to a knowledgeable person today, and best option will be to get some araldite or the likes and glue it on. As mentioned, the cables will keep it in place.

Stupid small problems - big issues - simple solutions.....cheers guys.
