FSA Integrated Headset
Hi,
My Kinesis Racelight GF Ti is supplied with an FSA No.42 CF ACB Integrated Headset. After noticing some play in the headset, I took it apart to give it a clean and re-grease but have found that there is rust on the external surface of the chrome steel Lower Bearing.
Am I right in assuming that this is simply due to water ingress inside the headtube and not a chemical reaction between the titanium headtube and the steel or chrome finish?
I'm unable to get to my LBS for a few days so was hoping that if it is the former then I can simply clean the rust away and assuming theres no visible pitting or damage, re-grease the headset and re-assemble?
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance
Tommo

Should be fine. Smear a little grease on all mating metal-metal surfaces to keep everything happy.
Unless the bearings are dead, the play is just an adjustment issue in any case.0 -
The bearings seem fine, no grating or excessive play (shouldn't be after only 600 mainly dry miles), so thanks I'll clean the surfaces, grease and re-assemble.
Like your blog btw, very good!My Ti

This is a good grease for bearings in regular stainless bearings in headsets and wheels by the way, you can also buy it with a gun which makes application a little more convenient and easy.0 -
