Hi,

Heading to Thurso in a few weeks and thinking of taking my ride. Other than the Golspie trails are there any routes closer to there or out along the west coast at the top? Don't really mind the grade of route as my 11 year old lad will be chumming me if possible.

Had a wee search and couldn't find much.

Thanks

I'll send him a link to this thread on Facebook to see if he has any other suggestions.

Don't know how far you're willing to travel, but I did Learnie last weekend, which i'd say is well worth a day trip. You drive through the seaboard village which is famous for Dolphin watching in the Moray Firth and there's some nice places to eat if you make a day of it.

Here's my video from Learnie from last week, as you can see it'd be fine for an 11yr old -

  • No official trails north of Golspie but plenty enjoyable forest roads to try. Not very technical but enjoyable for what they are. Rumster, camster, loch More, Braemore, there is also dunnet forest that has a network of paths that are quite enjoyable. Have a look on Facebook for a group called Caithness Mountain Bikers. Nice loop can be done round Holburn Head from thurso just don't go to close to the cliff edge :)
