I have recently noticed quite a lot of play in my right brake lever,
(avid elixir 5).brakes have just been bled and are fine other than this problem,
bearing in mind the bike is almost 3 years old,is it just a matter of a new lever?

Well check the brake line too from end to end - is it leaking somewhere?

  • No leak anywhere, plenty pressure in brake,
    just annoying movement,mainly up/down..

This is fairly common on avid levers i see alot come into my workshop the lever bushings can be replaced but it doesnt always remove all the play, but does reduce it

I had an off which bent the brake pivot on my elixir 1's causing the lever to wobble, a quick pinch with some mole grips tightened everything back up

  • Ok thanks, just checked the price of the internals kit,£23!..
might be better off buying new brakes after the trouble I've had with them!
  • oh right..where did you tighten it?

Not the cheapest internal kit by any means, if your looking at new brakes instead has to be shimano all the way i upgrades to slx from elixir 5s in the summer not had a problem since,

You won't need the internals - just the pivots for the lever blade - about £7 :)
  • cheers for the reply
