  • I think you need to be a bit more specific about which bike your talking about, they do a lot of bikes at Halfords some are better than others!

So it's not really a question about Halfords then, is it? It's about Boardman bikes?

But to recap nothing wrong with the Boardman just try and get it when its discounted.

Wait till the Easter weekend, there's bound to be a sale. If you haven't already, get a British Cycling membership for a further 10% discount

The Boardmans are sold by Halfords, they are built by Merida (who build millions of bikes, including many specialised) to Boardman's specs and sold exclusively through Halfords. Much as GT were until recently.

Only a frame is unique on the vast majority of bikes, the rest are standard components used on lots of other bikes.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

Nothing wrong with most of the Carrera or Boardman bikes just the rest, ie Trax,Apollo etc and as to service some are better than others. What about Giant Rapid 2, your signature says you had a roam before so why not a rapid comes with a Tiagra triple setup.

Yeh it does look like a nice bike and for the £400 price tag that was for my roam 3 it was good solid bike and never had any problems with it, its a possibility hmm decisions decisions!

Hi I have a boardman comp hybrid 2013 model which I got for 360.00 and for the price I don't think you can go wrong very fast little run around
  • You certainly get a lot for yer cash with Boardmans. Get them discounted enough and you can end up with a cheap, but highly specced (for the price) bike.

    Well worth it IMO
Trek,,,, too cool for school ,, apparently
  • One of my colleges did this...

    This was the method I used: http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/22-off- ... ds-1603626

    - Sign up for British Cycling. There is a code that works towards the end of the comments on there that gets you membership for about £15
    - Go through Quidco and reserve your bike from Halfords online. Quidco gives you 3% discount
    - Halfords last season bikes have 20% off at the moment but are selling fast
    - Until Wednesday, Halfords also give you £60 off a purchase over £600 when reserved online
    - Once the bike is reserved you have a week to collect. I went in to the store and tried it to make sure I was happy
    - Buy gift vouchers to its value from http://select.halfordsbusinessservices.co.uk/ Create an account then use the code ELGHAL13 for 10% off. Pay for them on a cashback credit card (I got 2.5% on Barclaycard)

    So I got

    £1000 bike
    £200 saving for last season
    £60 online discount

That gives the price to pay instore as £666 with the 10% british cycling discount (£74 saved)

Bought £665 of vouchers saving £66.50 (cost me £598.5)

    3% of £598.5 quidco = £18 discount
    2.5% credit card cashback on £598.5= £15

    So total discount = 200+60+74+66.5+18+15 = £433.5

Which means the bike cost £566.50 – about a 44% discount!

Looks complicated but everything accepted at the store without problems and the process was quick – vouchers come next day special delivery
