Are Marin not really bothered about the UK market anymore?

Went to a local(ish) bike shop this morning with the mrs who wanted to buy a particular ladies Marin. When we arrived it turned out they didn't actually have the bike in stock and wanted a non refundable deposit before they would order it in for her to try out! needless to say we left and she was a bit disappointed.

i can't actually find many places around Oxforshire that sell Marin bikes, never mind stock them for you to try out. Are Marin not really bothered about the UK market anymore?

The question I'd be asking is am I really bothered by Marin, never the best value spec and hard to come across (no longer at leisure lakes notably) so I'd go elsewhere. Plenty of quality bikes out there to worry about a particular brand imho
  • Non refundable deposit will be the lbs not Marin and it will be the lbs that have decided not to stock that particular model.

If they order one in, it will be at cost.
But there is a chance that you dont want it after the trial and they cant send it back so will be out of pocket.

Have you tried Rides on Air in Wallingford? I've never used them so can't recommend (or not) but I do know they stock Marin

The LBS don't want a bike they chose not to stock on the shop floor. I reckon 10% of people who say "I want this bike, can you order it" will ever follow it up if you have to order it.

What they could have said (and what I used to say) was "we'll take a deposit if we may, to make sure you come back, but if you really hate the bike, we'll sort something else out".

Marin switched distributors last year - I suspect thats had an impact on availability.
