Shimano Deore shifters

Hello all I hope someone can help.

I currently ride a standard bike, with a dropper seat. but the dropper button is hard to reach. on the left hand bar I only have Shimano Deore M590 shifter & dropper seat button.

The problem I have is with the big view window on the Deore M590, It takes up alot of space pushing the dropper button further down the bar.

Is it possible to get a blanking plate for the Deore M590 or could anyone give an alternative to use instead.

Thanks Dave.
I'm not a racer, but I like to churn out 2-3hr rides,
I love Cannock and Llandegla cycle parks.
Cube Acid 2010
Upgraded RockShox Reba RL Forks, twin air.
Updrade RockShox dropper seat post.
Went tubeless DIY style using a 20" BMX tube. Lasting well.

No, there's no blanking plate for those shifters - the windows aren't removable (without exposing the inner workings) Your best bet would be to run them further inboard and move your dropper remote closest to your grip.

I replaced my Deore shifter LH shifter with an SLX one for just this reason... (and I also replaced the RH shifter with XT because they are just so much better). Now I have no windows, I can run by brakes inboard of my shifters and my dropper remote is in a better position. I wish I'd made this upgrade earlier now - the better shifters make a noticeable difference.

I may need to look into this, as I have changed to Deore brakes this evening, and the x5 shifters get right in the way!!

You can't replace X5 with Shimano without changing the rear mech.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

Thanks, didn't know that, was looking at changing it to a shorter cage and a clutch rear mech, so looks like it will force my hand a little before I wanted it to lol

Something like a zee or Deore, with some I spec shifter if that will work

SRAM X series use a different cable pull ratio to Shimano, so can't be used together, SRAM named (e.g. Rocket) are Shimano compatible and can't be used with X series mechs.

Clutched mechs are only available as 10 speed which means a different mech, cassette, chain and shifter if you are currently on a 9 speed.

Cheers I'll give it a go as well. SLX here I come.

Just a quick point, I don't have the hand book anymore but is there a compatible brake lever, that the Rockshox dropper seat button can be doubled up with.

Would I need to change the front mech if I went shimano too? As that is x7?

You are really confusing D4VID's thread - much better to start your own. But no.
There is a compatibility post in the FAQ's.

Just remember I am old and get confused easily. Some people are not old, but are stupid and get confused easily.
And when confusion reigns, you might end up replacing your shifters with bacon.
Which could be a good thing if you are lost in the mountains and starving, but will not make for smooth shifting.

I was getting a bit lost to, Cooldad.

1/2 way through this post/thread I remembered that the Rockshox can be mounted together with a brake lever. bottom 1/2 brake lever-top 1/2 Rockshox button.

I just need to find the right brake system, then it will be just right.

Job is now sorted. I took a saw to the stalk part & then used SUGRU to seal up the hole. It now works really well.
