Hi, I'm quite new here and thought this may be a relevant place to share these.
I have taken quite a lot of old pics from races I have been to over the years and have recently digitised these, as I am just coming to grips with the technology to do so
Anyway...Birmingham stage finish of the '87 Kelloggs Tour Of Britain, I'll put some up from the '89 edition too...hope you like 'em, hope they're clear enough, cheers, Andy :D

The Inaugural '87 edition; toe-clips, hairnets, Oakley Pilots and all!

Pics removed...

  • Ive got some from that Tour as well. It is basically where and when I got into cycling. A sliding doors moment - being in the right place at the right time. I was having a Sunday in Manchester taking photos and suddenly there was a grand commotion -two tone horns, sirens etc - but no helicopter from memory? - followed by the spectacle of Joey McCloughlin tearing down Princess St in a breakway with Rooks and 4 others - going about 36 mph - I'd never seen anything like it - and it was love at first sight :) I took some hasty pics - then suddenly the calm before the storm and the experience of my first peloton at balls out - gripping. And they did another 5 laps. I'll try to dig the pics out.

The next week I bought a Raleigh 531 st tourer - rode all through that winter - joined a club in the spring and then rode from Manchester to Poiters to catch my first Tour de France. Started racing when I got back- and seen nearly every Tour since - and had some brilliant memories.

    cheers Joey :)

Some great pictures Andy. Elliott doesn't look a day older now does he? You should get these up on the cycling remembered groups on facebook (and have a look at the stuff that others post on there).

Thanks for the kind words...and memories too. I remember well my first 'live' race...the '83 Milk Race and couldn't believe the speed either; I'd never seen anything like it and was hooked. Elliott really doesn't look any older...just bizarre! I think I'll keep the pics here though, I'm a bit weary of Facebook.
    Cheers :-)

I was being serious. I'm sure that kit second from left is Featherstone Road Club. I feel like I've missed an inside joke or said something I shouldn't have!

Although a big cycling fan, I have a feeling Ian doesn't 'hop on a bike'.....

The general idea is that if Iain has a bike then it's heavily upholstered, has comfy cushions, a laptop for live streaming and a 42 inch plasma screen instead of a power monitor. He may have removed unnecessary parts such as pedals, wheels, chainset, brakes, saddle, handlebars, forks and frame.

Some do, some watch. Iain's in the latter camp. My bike is similarly equipped ;-)

This where a like button would come in handy

It's a little like wrestling a gorilla. You don't quit when you're tired. You quit when the gorilla is tired.

Thanks for clearing that up :D some of us have both types of bikes. :)

So is that photo, that Iain posted, an in-joke here that I've missed? It's just that I definitely recognise that club jersey and would be interested to know the story behind the photo.

Without wishing to appear rude at all......if there is an 'in joke' on my photo thread, can somebody explain it please. Thanks.

If there is then I'm not in enough to get it either.
