Hi all,

The hose on my rear Elixer 5 has split so needs to be replaced.

My main question is do I need an avid specific one or can I just buy any MTB hose (that will take Dot 5.1) and reuse the fittings (caliper end, I know I will need a new olive and barb)

Trying to do this on a budget so wanted to spend less that the £35 that wiggle want for an avid specific

Thanks

Yes, lots of generic hoses on ebay, I use one badged as 'Alero' on mine, came with fittings enough for both hoses and was £16.50!

    Cheers Rookie,

Am I likely to need new fittings at the caliper end or are they reusable?

You always need a new olive, you sometimes need a new barb (you can cut the OE ones out but mark them with the knife and they may leak).

they are just at the lever end though right? there isn't another at the caliper end?

I'm unfamiliar with Avid's I'm afraid, the shimanos came with the banjo on the hose already so I just had to put the o-rings on and bolt it in.
