A friend has just given me a old FSA K Force seat post he doesn't want anymore. Most of the main part is dull as it looks as though carbon paste maybe has worn the laquer away. Is it ok to spray some clear acrylic laquer onto it?

Yes. Carbon is a doddle to fix that way - I've made pretty much invisible repairs to scuffed carbon brake levers this way; rub down with wet and dry and respray. Simple. Best bet is probably car lacquer. I initially used model shop acrylic which looked fine but went slightly sticky when I went to the Alps and had rather hot temperatures to deal with!
