edited May 2014 in Your road bikes
My wife decided to get me a new bike for my birthday. Yay! So here's another build from me. I've decided on an American build, all American parts as far as possible except for Shimano Dura Ace Di2 and also a Red, White & Blue theme.

Here's the plan so far-
Zipp 404 Firecrest wheels
Zipp SL stem
ENVE forks
Chris King headset in Patriot color(red, white n blue)
Chris King BB in blue
Blue jockey wheels with red bolts
Carbon Ti seat collar in blue
Carbon Ti skewers in blue
Red cassette lock ring
Maybe some blue Alligator i-Links cables?

First pic with some of the parts already acquired.

Will update again once I get all the necessary parts to start building.

Ian, I'm a big fan of your build blogs but I'm also a cabinet maker and could do you a quote for a really nice handbuilt kitchen.

Or, don't tell me, they're the cabinets in your garage?!

Ian, put it this way, if you paid as much attention and budget to your cabinets as you do to your beautiful bike collection, you'd have one of my handmade kitchens! :D

I'm just kidding, but keep the bike updates coming through, it's good to see you living the dream and you sound like a decent guy that appreciates everything he has, including an amazing wife!!
  • Watching this with interest as always Ian.

Any upgrades on the Spesh bikes you have?

Bordersroadie, you'd be a billionaire in Malaysia as a hi end cabinet maker. I tell you.....mine r about as good as it gets here. The level of workmanship here in Malaysia is just.........HORRIBLE. My kitchen cabinets cost me about USD10k n I'm not even happy with it.

Super Domestique, I haven't paid much attention to the poor S-Works bikes in a while. I've just come back from a 4 month break from all forms of exercise. I need about 3-4 months at the end of every year to recuperate from the annual bone marrow extraction. Concentrating on the Ti bikes as they provide a much more comfy ride for my back. This Lynskey is gonna be especially good since the head tube is really tall and it has a really long wheelbase for comfort.
Anyway, here's a family portrait from a while back. I ran out of bike stands for the Venge. Haha

If you have problems with your back and want more comfort I am not sure why you insist with these uber-harsh carbon wheels and unforgiving tyres...

Get some nice 32 x 3 cross and a set of Challenge Strada Bianca at 60 PSI... that's comfort

I only have a problem for the 3-4 months during recuperation. Then it takes me about 1-2 months of riding to get back into tip top shape n ready for the PD International Triathlon I participate in every year. I am the kinda rider who rides long n low so the -17 is just the way I like to ride. Once I'm back in shape I have no probs with my back.

It's just one of the unfortunate things I have to live with as a cancer survivor. I'm down for almost half a year but when I'm back in shape, I ride hard, I ride like there's no tomorrow........until the next bone marrow extraction that is. The Ti bikes r perfect for the 1-2 months that I'm fighting to get back in shape. After that it's back to the super stiff n fast bikes. It's really frustrating n depressing actually. I'm a super fit triathlete for half a year n then I become a useless couch potato for the other half a year. It's a roller coaster ride but I will fight on.

Did more shopping for parts today. Got a beautiful ENVE seatpost to go with the forks.

    DSC_3456_zpsgdpflzsi.jpg

Then I went to the custom decals shop n did a black on black look for it. I also did the black on black decals for the fork.

Got my all time favorite SLR Kit Carbonio saddle

    IMG_20140310_224614_zpsngrncdd6.jpg

A very sexy blue Carbon-Ti seat collar. Very light too, at only 9gm.

Finalising the build. Sorting out the Di2 wiring.

    DSC_3414_zpscqrw0s9m.jpg

And finally the finishing touch. A Babici Captain America jersey for when I finally get to ride the bike. Haha

    IMG-20140308-WA0005_zps9kikg3ih.jpg

I will try n take some pictures of the complete bike soon. Might take a few days as I will b too anxious to ride n enjoy the bike n have no time for photography. Haha.

One last thing I needed was blue aluminum chainring bolts. All the LBS didn't have it in stock. Found a blue Token Bling Box so I had to buy the whole box.

    IMG_20140311_182007_zps7qgi5usp.jpg

I also put on a brand new set of OCP3 Q Rings which are lighter than the normal Q Rings I had on. OCP3 is about 30gm lighter.

I thought about red or blue Speedplays but the color is very dull. So I ended up buying plain ol black.

Now that was worth waiting for, another perfect build. Great theme and executed with style and restraint. Bravo.

Did you glue the di2 junction box to the underside of the stem? Double sided tape?
