Majorca day trip bike transport

Hey everyone,

Heading to Majorca in May and have the crazy idea of doing a big ride from one side of the island to the other via some large hills. Basically I think I could do the 140km in one direction but doubt I'd make the extra ~100km back to the villa.

Does anyone have any info on transporting bikes about via public transport, taxis or transfers?

Thanks in advance!

Dan

Public transport (buses) is essentially a no-no. Cant take bikes on them, and don't forget many of the routes only go once or twice a day. Taxis are easy but not cheap...
Depending on where you villa is located, why not do the 140km round trip -frankly thats the only part of the 312 which is fun, the rest is quite flat and boring...
Another idea is to hire a bike from your finish point, not your start point, and return it at the end of your ride?

Thanks for the reply. Basically the 140km of interesting cycling is from the villa in Alcudia to the coast just above palma, the 100km extra is getting back! I've seen there are trains from palma most of the way back so might try and work that in some how!

Train from Palma to Sa Pobla and cycle the rest of the way about 6 miles.

I\'m pedaling around the world looking for the sunshine that always seems to come my way.

Taxi is probably your best bet, easy to pick up, but of course not the cheapest option.

You could take into account that the route from Palma to Alcudia is basically flat so you could cycle it back?

The route I was thinking of is this one:

Its true you don't get to do the Valdemossa to Banyalbufar to Calvia bit but getting round Calvia area is much busier than the stuff further north..

That's an awesome route, probably the best on the island. I did part of it from Port de Pollenca up to the Puig Major and while it was only 37 miles but it's still the most memorable ride I've ever done. If I was going back this year I'd want to be doing that ride you posted, although probably in the opposite direction.

I have ridden the length of the island and back many many times and im sure you could dependant on fitness of course.
Your best bet is as said above ride down the train back to sa pobla (my home town) then ride back to alcudia (20 mins)
Train will cost you 4 euros and you just put your bike in the bike rack at the end of the carriage. You get a cab your looking at 90 euros.
Train leaves from underground on placa espanya and get the train to sa pobla. Takes an hour for the trip. You have to get off and swap trains for the last three stops as they didnt run the power lines all the way! So you get new electric train all the way to a station called enllac i think it is, then you seap there and get on a shit diesel one for the last ten mins. Everybody will get off so its quite easy.
Its the best and easiest option dont do it any other way believe me. And jts more fun than a taxi too. And by the way most of them drive here the safest too.

Ride it as a loop but don't do the Bunyola section (which includes a lot of climbing) on the way back.
When you have ridden through the mountains drop down through Fornalutx (voted one of the prettiest villages on Majorca) and this will cut off a few km and save into going to Soller. After climbing again to avoid the road tunnel take the road the runs through Sa Coma, Santa Maria, Binissalem. Flat and usually a tail wind. Then follow to Road of Muro (or what ever the Spanish is) a lovely straight quite road then branch off to Sa Pablo and Alcudia. Should easily do it in a day rode this last September with my girlfriend. To put it in perspective she finds 14 mph average on a 50 km flat route fast.
