Triple to double, is it that simple...

Asking for a friend, his middle ring got mangled by a piece of metal lying in the road, and it's bent, possibly the chain too.

Can he just remove the middle ring and move the big ring across? Then just re set the limits on the front mech?

Or is it more complex than that?

    No, new middle ring needed. Outer ring won't fit on the middle ring position

    Also you can't shift from a 24t ring to a 42t ring in one go
