Entries for the National 400k Audax for 2014 have now opened. This year the event will start in the North East of England at Ingleby Barwick, near Stockton on Tees. The route will initially head south towards Ripon before turning west and onwards through the Yorkshire Dales to the North Pennines. A friend of mine has written a blog entry about the event at http://balancingontwowheels.blogspot.co ... unced.html

For anyone considering stepping up distances, the National 400 is going to be a great way to do it. The concept of the National (it moves around each year and a different club runs it) is to offer great support for the riders with decent village hall stops with plenty of good food and drink to help you through the ride.

This year's edition looks stunning and uses some fantastic looking roads and VC167 (the organising club) know what they're doing - they'll look after you.

I don't think I am going to ride it - tempting though it is, I finish a 1300 up in Scotland on the Friday, and I am not man enough to then head down there for another 400km! Maybe.

Like Marcus don't think I can get round the The Highlands, Glens & Western Isles in time to get to the start of the National 400
