Hello!
So, the following ad looks really good to me, in terms of quality/price ratio.

http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/monta ... to-content

However, can I trust the Montane brand, since it doesn't yield much results on the web.

Should I buy this bike?

The main reason, why I would be so anxious to buy it, is because it has fenders and a pannier rack right away and it is a really big bike, which suits, me, because I'm tall.

The fenders and pannier would allow me to tour right away. Does the bike seem strong enough for touring, I'm not sure of the frame material?

As far as I can recall, this is a French brand from the '70's, as is the bike by the look of it. Probably got 27" (as opposed to 700C) wheels on - check the tyre sidewall. It'll do I'm sure. Frame will almost certainly be 4130 carbon steel - nothing special, but durable. If it's rust free outside it's probably not bad inside. Make sure you can move the seatpost and stem to adjust position - they can get seized into the frame.

Such a lot of worry over a bike with an asking price of £80.

    I doubt this very mutch.
I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles

And why is that? The frame is supposedly 24 inches, which is basically XL.

Someone of 5' 7 would struggle on a 24in frame.

Oh, ok. For me the only worry is that the bike would be too small. But you do have a fair point.

Rather depends on their inseam :D but yes, probably. I used to rise a 60cm frame, (23.6") and I'm 5'10" with a 33" inseam. It was fine, but at 5'7" I'd not have reached the bars!
