Full suss options please - £1-1.5K

A friend of mine is considering jumping into the full suss market. I reckon a 120-140mm travel bike will be most suited - wants decent enough for general xc riding but with good capability for the rougher stuff (including a forthcoming Alps trip - but we're talking the tamer stuff not the full DH runs). Lets say Trance type bike. Budget prob £1 to £1.5k, but the lower end of the range would be better. He'll probably need a small frame. Happy with 26" but 650b may appeal if in a good package and would consider a 29er if a capable bike on budget.
For me I think the Trance X2 from Pauls would be ideal, but not available in his size (Plus he may not want the same as me). He wants more travel than an anthem.
What is the general feeling about the Boardman 650b team?

This Vitus looks interesting to me

Possibly a Canyon Nerve AL 6? (although I'm wondering if he may prefer the safety net of the slightly extra travel of a 130mm bike)

Any other options / bargains to consider? Bearing in mind need for availability a small (or medium if it comes up small if you know what I mean!)
As always thanks for your help folks

Thanks. Was looking for a bargain, but it does seem a decent spec for the money anyway. Interested in others thoughts on this in the mix with the above.0 -
Escarpe 2 is a decent specified bike, and has a few good reviews. I would go for that0

I've owned the Boardman for 3 weeks now, great bike well worth the cash a bargain at the price, brakes could be better but at this price an easy upgrade, i got it on cycle to work so will end up getting it for £680 if I was paying cash i'd get the vitus for the spec but hate the colour the giant is nice but overpriced with a spec similar to the Boardman so if your mate wants 650b which I have found I really like get the Boardman cheers.0

Nice. I doubt I'll get him to pay that much, but includes a dropper too. Anybody ridden this / seen any reviews?0 -
If you are looking slightly over the max budget then this:

If you are looking at budget then the Canyon Nerve Al 6 or 7 looks pretty good value.2015 Nukeproof Mega TR 275 in raw0 -
