Expecting dry feet on a long ride in this weather is probably not realistic. Your feet will still get wet as the water will come in over the top, or up through the cleat holes. The best you can hope for is that they stay relatively warm, which is really all that matters...

Maybe out of budget (I don't know) - but the Rapha overshoes are a godsend. Keep your feet both warm and dry.

I'd also recommend the ProVision overshoes. Very good quality. More waterproof, less insulating though than the Rapha ones.

just thinking if you can keep your feet dry then they'll prob stay warm(hopefully)
I'll check out your suggestions but as you say in this weather nothing will keep you dry....within reason anyhow

Get some merino socks, at least when the water gets in you'll stay warm.

There's no guarantee that dry feet will be warm, as there are too many variables. A good pair of neoprene overshoes should keep your feet warm even when wet.

My experience with the Planet X £10 specials was similar to yours.

My Enduras (http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/endu ... wgod3jwALQ) and are working well for me. But I have one little gripe, surely the velcro should be on the same side as the logo (i.e. the outside) so it doesn't rub the frame, derailer etc if it comes loose.

Oh and don't use them in flat shoes on DMR V8s, the studs rip the beading/hems to shreds, they still keep my feet dry but look worn.
I used to just ride my bike to work but now I find myself going out looking for bigger and bigger hills.

Recently got a new pair of BBB Hardwear and they are a lot warmer than my old BBB heavy duty ones. They don't allow much to penetrate in the way of road spray, the heavy duties tended to get saturated then you'd get a chill factor when cycling, so i ended up lining my toes with silver foil. Not ridden the Hardwear in a downpour yet but so far much better for my poor circulation

gore tex winter shoes at least a size up, paired with thick merino socks.

Shoes keep the wind out and the merino keep your feet warm when wet.

Also make sure you readjust your shoes after 20 mins so you keep the blood flowing.

I don't think a fully waterproof overshoe exists, eventually the water will get in.

Therre's just no point in buying those. BBB ones are far more durable and cost no more. If you do wear the sole area of the BBBs you can repair the damage with puncture repair glue and a bit of inner tube. The sole on the Enduras is flimsy and the zips are no better. Endura make good clothes but very delicate overshoes.

I have tried a few....water would get in mainly through the top of the overshoe and/or through the cleat section. To be honest, I don't wear them anymore as I have accepted my feet will get wet if it rains.

I make do with the Planet X cheapo ones paired with Woolie Boolies which tend to keep my feet warm if the water does get in.

I think if I was commuting in winter or doing long rides like Audax I'd be wanting something more waterproof though.
