Voodoo Hoodoo £368

Just been looking for my first mountain bike and notice Halfords (wash my mouth out) are selling the Voodoo Hoodoo for £409 if ordered on line, if I then apply my British Cycling discount this will come to £368.
I haven't been sure whether to give a Mountain Bike a go or just put knobblies on my 26" Hybrid - but at this price it seems like a no brainer - is this as good a deal as I think or would I be better buying the £600 Trek Caliber 7 from my LBS?
