Shimano r500 freehub

Freehub on my r500 wheel is done...

A direct replacement is £21!!

Are all shimano freehub bodies the same?

Can I use an alternative?

    JUst to be clear, 21 pounds for a freehub is cheap rather than expensive, other brands cost 70 or more pounds

    I'm thinking more used on ebay

    Or buying a full hub like the sora or tiagra one

    You tried any first aid on it? I take my RS10 freehub off annually, pick out the seal from the back and drizzle loads of transmission oil in there. Washes out the muck and rejuvenates it for another year.

    I manged to shear off the top of The hub casing when putting a new cassette on!!

    You can buy a new pair of R501s for £60. For this reason I'd be inclined to treat them as disposable, although if yours are in near new condition I'd consider spending the £21 for a freehub. As Ugo says, that's really quite cheap.

    I don't know, but probably not. There are lots of very similar, but different Shimano freehubs.

    Wheelset is 60 quid new atm.
