Right another wheel thread!

I want a pair of Archetypes, that much I know.

However, I have finalised 2 builds (which workout at about the same weight and price) and wanted to see if anyone had any useful input for me:

1 – Dura Ace hubs with standard spokes 24/28
2 – Hope hubs with Cx-ray spokes 20/24

Thank you

Not always. What if you want to swap freehubs occasionally and run Campagnolo? Or even if you want to run Campagnolo in the first instance? These scenarios aside, I would tend to agree, but if it were me I'd go with the Hope RS Mono hub as I like to be able to change freehubs. I won't even advise on the spokes.
  • Why no advice on the spokes?

I don't need to change the freehub so looking like 1.

Because I don't know the answer! You'll receive all sorts of advice to not bother with CX Rays but there are mainly based around the negligible or non existent aero advantages. But there are other factors - I find a 'zingier' ride with CX Rays, but that's a wholly subjective thing and I couldn't or wouldn't argue the point. If you have the money then why not? But I would spend on the hubs first (having done the opposite in the past) and if that means you go for Race or Lasers then I doubt you'll be disappointed.

Why on earth would I ever run Campag anything? :P

    Fair dos!
  • I'm another vote for 1.

CX Rays are great but I'd have thought Lazers would do just as well. DA hubs however are outstanding and since the hubs are the one bit of the wheel that you won't bin on rebuild I'd always plug for the best hubs you can.

    So long a it's 11 speed, there's no issue ;)

  • 1. Is what I've just had built, arrived yesterday. I was quoted trade price for the hubs and it was more than I could buy them myself from Evans. So I bought them myself and sent them onto the builder. At the price they are at the moment 9000 hubs are a no brainer, and I think 24/28 is a good all round spoke count, and I'm not heavy.
