Hi, I was wondering if anyone could advise me on the following. I currently have a Specialized tricross sport 2009 and am looking to upgrade to more of a dedicated road bike, budget about £1000 to £1200. I'm keen on the Giant defy 1 or 0, as far as I can see the only difference is the ultegra groupset on the defy 0 which is 200 more expensive. Is it worth the extra money for someone like me who rides mostly at weekends plus the occasional sportive? Would I notice a difference between the ultegra and 105 groupset coming from my current bike with no experience of other road bikes?

  • 105 is a great group set and will be more than enough for the riding you describe but Ulegra is an improvement and it's cheaper to buy it on a new bike than upgrade afterwards. if your looking to save money now the Defy 1 is a great bike.

If you are referring to the 2014 range, the Defy 0 is 11 speed Ultegra, while the Defy 1 is 10 speed 105. Frames are the same Aluxx SL, finishing kit is the same as are the wheels/tyres. Chainsets and brake calipers are different.
So you just need to decided on whether you want 11sp or 10sp and which colour you prefer.

The ride will be the same and if you are not bothered about having 11sp you can put the £200 towards something else. Make sure you get the correct size frame, there is a review on BR of the 0. http://www.bikeradar.com/road/gear/cate ... -14-48012/
