    Not sure you'll need the front suspension of the Crosstrail, but disk brakes useful for year-round riding.
    How about the EBC Revolution Courier - with hydraulic disks?

    I reckon all three of those would be good choices and should be widely available. I'd just go and have a look, try them and buy one. You won't go wrong.
    On the flat bar / drop bar thing. I would probably buy a drop bar bike but despite what others say, for a short commute (say less than 30 mins) there really isnt much advantage in having the extra hand positions on offer from drops so go with what you feel most comfortable with (I ride both flat and drop bar bikes every day - flat bar is a station bike which tends to get used for 10-20 minute trips, I dont miss the drops on it). If you think you might use the bike for longer rised at the weekend then I'd give more thought to drops.
