Scott Ransom 40. Got given it to me by my brother last year, he said I could keep it because he never uses it so I can't complain. It's a great bike apart from the reliability of the rear shock and no bike shops will touch it for a service apart from Evans Cycles and that means sending it away.

The next time the rear shock breaks I'm going to swap it for a Fox DHX 5 air with an air can off the RP23. Without the RP23 air can the DHX 5 air would bottom out too easily with the way the Ransoms frame works. A lot of complicated pish about leverage, I have to have it set about 400psi for 85kg rider. I will miss the remote lock out and travel adjustment when I swap shocks but at £100 a time for a replacement refurbished shock from Scott I'd rather go for reliability.

It's also my first full suspension bike. I'm a hardtail fan at heart and I have an Inspired 24" trials bike and a 24Le Toy 3 that I'm currently building up. I will post pictures of them later.

You won't be able to replace the shock with anything because it's a pull shock, not a push shock like the RP23 or DHX5, so I'm afraid you're stuck with the original scott shock
  • That's the Scott Genius you're thinking of that has the pull shock. The Ransom is a normal push shock but it's still a horrible equalizer lol. I'll post a video if you want. When my brother mentioned the Scott shock I looked it up and saw a pull one so I got as bit concerned I won't be able to change it but then when he gave me the bike I noticed is has a push one.

I did a bit of research and quite a few people have done the DHX5 air with modified air can on this bike and all said it's 10x better than the Scott one. You just loose all the remote settings and have to get it fine tuned to the Scotts crazy leverage forces. I'm running the Scott shock at 400psi for my 85kg weight.
