Gear cables

I replaced mine this week and all was well until dalby! The shifters worked fine but now they're 'gritty'!!

Any advice on cleaning these or how to prevent this in future? I have exposed cable along the top of my top tube.

Parts of it were pretty boggy and muddy and then there are the usual sandy areas which don't help

have the cable completely covered to stop grime getting in.

Do you recommend having outers all the way along then?

Might look at this for next time - the shifters work but make a nasty noise

sounds like you got sand/grit in them.. tbh winter is the worst time to change cables if you can help it and they just get clogged up again.
