Hi,
Am building a bike up and have a new dura ace 11 speed
11,28 cassette, as I usually ride a compact
50x34 I know I dont need anything lower than a 25
So if I purchased a 52x36 crankset would that give
Me similiar ratios and range as a standard
Compact?

39x28 is about the same as 34x24.4, 36x28 is 34x26.4.
So 39 is closer.

Standard 34/28 is a very low gear too low really unless you are doing a 20% long climb.http://www.thecycleclinic.co.uk -wheel building and other stuff.0

Not sure where the 39 and 34x 28 came from.
A 36x 28 will give a gear roll out of 2.9m, your next gear down, a 25t, will give a 3.0m
A 34x 25 2.7m
but a 38x 28 would give pretty much a 34 x 25 @ 2.8
all dependant on tires fitted for exact measurements.
so, you ll have a slightly lower low gear and a higher top gear and you get the all important 11th gear0 -
Here's two calculators for gearing comparisons. http://www.bikecalc.com/gear_ratios

Hope you don't suffer all the issues with your dura ace 9000 cassette, I decided to go with the SRAM xg1190 instead as the horror stories worried me about exploding cassettes.0
