  • That's a bloody good price and they're very good.

That's a very aero bike but it rides like most aero bikes (garbage) what are you looking for in your new bike?
  • Just something different what I haven't had before...I kind of collect :D:D
  • In that case get something different, cevelos are ten a penny. You can find something unusual...

As with any bike its all about the fit. If the fit is right for you then they are superb (IMO) bikes, looks like a good price if they have your size.

I'm with upperoilcan, I don't see massive amounts of Cervelo's when out and about. But even if I did that wouldn't put me off.
If Mrs W and Bank Manager would allow it, I'd be on one. Looks are a personal thing, but I do like that frame.
Also money is subjective, if you have the money and its something you really want, then they would be worth the extra cash.
(I ride a Madone 4.7, other people will say for the money I could have got a really good Planet X, Canyon or Rose, but I really wanted a Madone so I'm very happy with spending the money I spent - close to 3k with the upgrades I added - I'm happy with it and love riding it, I could afford it and thats all that matters to me)

I remember reading that some Cervello models suffered from delicate carbon around the bottom bracket. Around the same time as a friend was riding one, thought he had a problem with the BB, brought it back to Sigma who advised that the frame was cracked and that the problem was far from isolated. This was 1-2 years back on a new frame and I don't recall the model. Sigma replaced it with a Tarmac SL4. May be unrelated problem to the model you are considering but I'd suggest a bit of research to be sure.

  • ^^ This. I've heard a lot of stories about Cervelo frames cracking at the bottom bracket, and it's usually the model you're looking at, the ones with the BBright bb's in think are a bit more reliable. That being said I do know of 2 guys local to me who have had warranty claims with S5's.
  • If you like it buy it. I've just bought an S5 and I absolutely love it. I've had a frame issue with a Tarmac and a mate had numerous warranty issues on a trek and a lapierre bit they are still great bikes. So don't let Internet scare stories put you off (you will only ever get problems reported nobody starts a post just to tell you their bike has had no issues ;)

Buy it you will love it!

No bike over about £600 is "worth it" when you consider the materials and engineering that go into it.

Previously had an S1 - terrific bike. Very responsive to ride and judging by some times I set on it, it doubled up well as a TT bike with clip-ons. The S2 looks a decent price although the wheels will require an upgrade to get the best from it.

I've read about BB issues with Cervelos but since you are buying new, you will have warranty cover.

The Cervelo warranty may not always provide a quick satisfactory solution :

As for the Slane deal - seems very good.

It depends on you. If thats whats important to you - then yes they're worth the money.

If you aren't convinced yourself then it isn't.

There are other cheaper bikes that are as fast. You pay a premium for the brand name and the associated kudos it has.
  • It's funny, I always thought I wanted a Cervelo and was one of my dream bikes (always lusted after an R3). This year I was in the position where I could have bought one if I wanted, but now I have the money to buy one I decided against it. I dare say if I still couldn't afford one then I'd still want one!
