Giant Anthem

Hi All
At risk of starting a 26 vs 27.5 debate I have to ask anyone who has ridden or owns either the 26 or 27.5 Anthem.
I have found a great deal on a 26 Anthem but hesitant to close the deal as risk of missing out on a 27.5 with better capabilities.
I'm not asking if 26 or 27.5 better, I'm asking those who have ridden or owned both which you preferred and if possible what sort of riding. Racing or trail or recreation.
I plan on doing the odd XC race but every so often a day a Afan or Swinely.

I had a 26" Anthem and it was really excellent. Riding fast took minimal effort, its very light and has excellent rear suspension.
I would have another Anthem but I think I would go for a 29er.
I haven't ridden the 275 but have been told by a couple people who have bought them that they feel almost exactly the same as the old 26" Anthem.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
Not ridden the 27.5 but I have an anthem in 26" and I highly rate it. It climbs really well, when the front forks are locked out it feels really sprightly.
I do mostly trail center stuff at glentress and Innerleithen and it handles the downs superbly, I can keep up with my buddies who are on 140mm + bikes.
I got mine when pedalon where doing it for £999, I see it's at £899 just now which really is a bargain.0 -
I have a 26" Anthem, totally love it, I got the weight right down and it's fast over everything and flys up hills. Also very comfortable over long distances. I doubt there would be much difference with the 275.0

If you've been offered a great dela on a 26er Anthem, go for it. Had mine for 5 years and still happy with it. Like has been said above, you probably wouldn't notice the difference riding a 27.5 compared to a 26. For me the main difference is that big wheels on a MTB look gash"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0

That's what I used to think. But now having seen enough 27s I'm starting to think 26ers look a little under wheeled. All the gear, no idea and loving the smell of jealousy in the morning.

I wn and have raced my anthem 26" X2 (upgraded) and have performed well on it and if you've got a great deal then i'd buy it.Constantly trying to upgrade my parts. It is a long road ahead as things are so expensive for little gain. n+1 is always the principle in my mind.0 -
Thanks gents, my mind is made up! Will post up pics.
I have my eye on this one

Seems dear, check out pauls cycles or pedalon0

Looks nice but personally I'd go for this and save a lot of money. Upgrades can be made later and completely to your taste then.

Thats at least £700 overpriced. Strange choice of wheels for a light weight xc bike.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -

Yep, overpriced.
For less money you can have this

From Paul's - or a selection of other cheaper Anthems which you could upgrade.
(or you could buy mine!)0 -
I'm obviously so out of touch. It's been ages since I looked - never mind bought a bike.
Thanks for the input gents.
With Hopes, Mavics and some XT and XTR I thought it was decent price for £1600.
Oh well, off to the Giant store in St Paul's tomorrow.
I've booked to test a 650b0 -
Those Mavic wheels are a bit heavy duty for that bike. Hope parts never add value.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

Giants own standard of steerer tube. 1.5" - 1.25" taper. Stupid ideaTransition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
So instead of 1/8. Is it problematic or just difficult to find spares?0
-
You need a specific giant stem if you are going shorter, and if you are selling the fork it can prove difficult to sell on. (Unless another giant owner wants it)
Stuffing a 1 1/8 steerer fork in isn't a problem though.0 -
Thanks again gents. Consider me informed. I'm starting to remember why I don't buy bikes anymore.
I am seriously starting to consider sticking with what I got and looking to buy again when it's dead......0
