Mmmm
Yep my bikes cost more than my cars and Van, but if you add the Race car........ It is close.

Who am I kidding I spent way more on bikes.

I have spent more on bikes than cars, but the car cost/is worth more than any one bike.

Mmm, max I've spent on a bike is £250 - but the Rusty Raleigh, which cost £120, has probably cost more over the years in replacement parts than at least 5 cars I have had over the years.
  • Cost no, but currently my bike is worth more than my car!

My (4) bikes have cost me a total of £1200, commuting on one of them I have saved £1300 (versus the cost of using the car), so my bikes have cost me minus £100.....

The car cost more than that! (BMW320D Touring, Mazda RX8)

M3, lovely to drive, but a friend has averaged £850 a YEAR over 4 years on VANOS replacements!
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

Never had an issue with the VANOS on my car in 3 years of owning it. Guess it's like most things, you can always buy a lemon!

Apart from my commuter, each of my bikes cost more than my car. I only have a car to drive bikes around after all. It's not a bad car, don't get me wrong, it's just beaten up and cheap, but mechanically bang on, and makes more power than it did new. And if I had a nicer car, I'd feel bad about filling it with mud, parking it in ditches, driving it around full of tools on dig days etc. And, er, accidentally abandoning it in the middle of a river.

I have mostly shite cars by choice, ugly practical economic things that you can wheel a bike into upright and also carry kids, stuff, wine, goats etc. and get 55mpg.

Whenever I put my best bike in the back of my cheapest car I triple its value.

But I don't 'get' cars as something to covet.

    Ah, that explains it. :D
  • One of my favourite things is to see a car with a bike attached, where the bike is clearly worth more than the car.

That's someone who's got their priorities right.
