Did you remove them to replace the cable, usually means they've been put back on without the peg being located into the moving slot properly.
Just bin the indicators anyway and use the blanking plates, smaller, neater and lighter!Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
Looking at them think I must have lost the peg :-(0

I don't think you can, the indicator arm includes the peg on the other end.
Pointless anyway, just remove and fit the cover, most my riding is in the dark when you can't see the indicator even if you wanted to!Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
If you put the windows back on and don't engage the peg then it can snap off, and then the indicator won't move.0

Have you ever looked at the indicator to see what gear you're in? They're a gimmick to reassure people who are daunted by the prospect of more than five gears ("how will I know which one I'm in?") and I'd be amazed if anyone relies on them after the first week.Specialized Roubaix Elite 2015

If it feels a bit stiff then shift down. If your legs are spinning too fast then shift up. If the lever doesn't go any further then you have run out of gears.
Position indicators are pointless and limit lever position adjustment.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
